Quantity versus quality in tourism development among ASEAN countries

Some ASEAN countries are leading the way in both the quantity and quality of their tourism growth. Although many believe that mass tourism growth is often accompanied by lower overall spending, countries such as Thailand and Singapore are showing sustained and higher rates of overall visitor spending over time, even as their visitor arrival numbers also increase. This is despite allcountries in ASEAN generally increasing in both tourism receipts and visitor arrivals from 2004 to 2017.
