An international forum on...
Date: Friday, 20 April, 2018
Time: 14:30-17:30
Venue: FG51, Grand Hall, Forward Building, Taipa Campus, IFT, Macao SAR, China
background of The Forum
China’s Belt and Road initiative aims to realize one of the most ambitious and far-reaching international cooperation programs ever undertaken, involving more than 60 countries and regions in Asia, Europe and the African continent, and with the goal of promoting closer cooperation among these countries. While most discussions about the Belt and Road revolve around infrastructure, economic, and trade development, few, if any, in-depth dialogues have taken place focusing on the initiative’s long-term impact on global travel and tourism.
Since the Belt and Road initiative also envisions cooperation in regional tourism and the development of cross-country tourism routes and products, the aim of this forum is to discuss and address some of the most important issues affecting global travel and tourism as a result of the momentous change, opportunities, as well as challenges brought forth by the Belt and Road initiative.
Organised jointly by IFT Tourism Research Centre and the College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, the Forum will be inviting international scholars and experts to discuss in a panel format and share their insights as well as exchange ideas on key issues such as:
- What investments and developments in travel, transport, and attractions infrastructure would be spurred by the Initiative and where? What opportunities and risks does the initiative bring for global tourism and hospitality development?
- What are the challenges the initiative may face in terms of travel mobility, visa restrictions, socio-cultural impacts, and openness between countries along the Belt and Road? How can these challenges be overcome?
- For actors in global hospitality and the travel trade and those involved in national tourism promotion and development, what preparations are needed to capitalize on the prospects brought by the initiative?
- What are the long-term implications and challenges of the initiative for tourism & hospitality manpower mobility, skills development, training and education?
