background and purpose
The Greater Bay Area (GBA) Cooperation Framework signed by the governments of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, brings forth an urgent need for collaborative research efforts to advance the collective development of the GBA. The GBA is now integrating rapidly in terms of economic development, infrastructure projects, transportation connections, and more frequent people-to-people exchanges. These changes raise important questions in terms of tourism development and policy research which future joint research need to address. Among these are research questions focusing on:
The long-term impacts of greater tourism activity on the GBA
The sustainability of tourism development for communities in the GBA
Tourism management coordination, promotion, and cooperation between the different cities of the GBA
Even and balanced tourism development for both sides of the Pearl River Delta
The impacts on travel mobilities of large infrastructure projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
The creation of joint destination branding, image, and marketing promotion of the GBA
Tourism products and attractions development across the GBA
Given the rapid and intense integration already occurring, it is logical that research in tourism and hospitality areas should also be collaborative and integrative. Thus, under the GBA cooperation framework and aided by their long-standing partnerships, IFT, SYS, and HKPU are jointly organising this Forum, the purpose for which is…
to discuss, identify, prioritize, and focus research efforts and resources towards addressing the most urgent tourism development challenges facing the Greater Bay Area under a coordinated and collaborative framework.
Who should attend
The Forum invites policy-makers, government officials, and decision-makers of all backgrounds and areas to participate and help to define the above issues or raise other pertinent points for research. The Forum also invites scholars, researchers, community interest groups, think-tanks and private associations to participate. Members from the travel and hospitality industries, industry associations, and stakeholders from the GBA are especially welcome to attend and share their opinions, as are members of the general public.
The forum is open to all and is free of charge, but registration in advance is necessary. The Forum will be conducted in English and Mandarin, with simultaneous translations in Mandarin and English.
